Golden Mantis | Black Tea
This gourmet black (Dianhong) tea is a type of Chinese black tea is comprised of fine leaf buds, or "golden tips," present in the dried tea. Cruising in from Yunnan, China, this budsy, bold black is a must have in your tea cupboard.
PROCESSING:
Black tea is the most process of the tea world, being intentionally oxidized from 80%-99%. Our Golden Mantis is on the lighter side of black teas, only being oxidized to a mellow 80-85%. These leaves are named “Golden Mantis” because of the resemblance the large tippy buds have to a praying mantis’ forearms.
STEEPING:
This is our recommendation, but we encourage you to experiment with steep times and water temperature to explore your personal preference:
3-5 grams (1 fluffy Tablespoon) of tea leaves
14-16 fl oz of water 203F
Steep 1: 4 min
Steep 2: 6 min
Steep 3: 8 min
The tea buds steep a bold red color and exhibit a honey aroma, polishing off with a lingeringly smooth sweet finish.
This is considered a self drinking black tea, which means it is a lighter, thinner liquor and does not hold up well with milk. Try it for yourself and leave us a review! We love to hear from you :D
