Springtime in the Rockies

Springtime blossoms in snow

Greetings,

Spring is the season of renewal and rebirth, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Rockies. The snow melts away, the trees begin to bud, and the wildlife returns to the mountains. Springtime in the Rockies is a magical time, and it's the perfect time to explore all that this amazing region has to offer.

One of the most stunning aspects of springtime in the Rockies is the explosion of wildflowers that covers the mountainsides. From delicate alpine forget-me-nots to vibrant Indian paintbrushes, the Rockies are home to a dazzling array of wildflowers. There's no better way to experience the beauty of these flowers than by hiking through the mountains. Take a leisurely stroll through the foothills or challenge yourself with a high-altitude hike to see these flowers up close and personal.

As the snow melts away, the wildlife in the Rockies begins to emerge from their winter lairs. Elk, deer, and moose can be seen grazing in the meadows, while bighorn sheep and mountain goats cling to the rocky cliffs. Spring is also the time when baby animals are born, so keep an eye out for newborn fawns, calves, and cubs. The best way to see the wildlife is by taking a guided tour, but you can also explore on your own if you're comfortable in the backcountry.

This is also the month where I start to look for the first shoots of herbs popping up in my favorite wild foraging spots. I get such a burst of joy seeing the continuation of the plants that nourished me and my family last year. Welcome, new life!

Cheers,

Amanda
